Cherry Blossom Season Has Arrived
分享
Cherry blossom season has come to Tokyo.
Near MERI, you can enjoy beautiful sakura around the Edo-Tokyo Museum and the Sumida Hokusai Museum.
There is a famous poem by the monk Saigyō, who lived between the Heian and Kamakura periods:
“If I could choose,
I would wish to die beneath the blossoms in spring—
around the time of the full moon in the second month.”
(In the old Japanese calendar, this would correspond roughly to March.)
For centuries, the Japanese have cherished cherry blossoms.
They have inspired countless poems and works of art throughout history.
Even in today’s age of AI, when spring approaches, we still find ourselves wondering when the sakura will bloom.
Interestingly, Saigyō is said to have passed away just as he wished—
on the 16th day of the second month in the old calendar.
If you have the chance to visit Japan, we hope you will experience the beauty of cherry blossoms across the country.
Spring in Japan begins with sakura.
