American Express Visits MERI: Tokyo Metro Is Now Even Easier with Contactless Payment
We recently had a special visit from American Express for a feature about shops in Tokyo.
Did you know that you can now ride the Tokyo Metro using a contactless credit card?
Simply tap a compatible card or smartphone at the ticket gate—no need to buy a ticket or charge a transportation card. Traveling around Tokyo is becoming more convenient than ever. American Express is one of the supported contactless payment brands on the Tokyo Metro.
As part of their introduction to shops around Tokyo, the American Express team visited MERI in Ryogoku.
And, of course, they couldn't leave without experiencing one of our Japanese zori-making workshops!
For this special occasion, they created a pair of zori slippers inspired by the iconic American Express colors.

They chose a beautiful blue for the body and paired it with straps featuring a cloud pattern.
We love the combination.
Isn't it cute?

It's always interesting to see how different colors and patterns completely change the personality of a pair of slippers—and this blue combination feels especially fresh.
You can see their visit to MERI and the zori-making experience on the official American Express Instagram account.

We're delighted that American Express visited our shop and experienced making Japanese zori here in Ryogoku.
If you're visiting Tokyo, why not take the train to Ryogoku, explore the neighborhood, and create your own pair of MERI?
Perhaps you'll discover your own favorite color combination along the way.
