About MERI
- Freeing the toes throughout the world -
“MERI” has evolved as an art form blending tradition and modern design based on techniques cultivated at a knitting mill in Sumida, Tokyo since 1948.
It brings a sense of release around the toes and happiness while you experience "the passion for craftsmanship" that lives on in Japanese culture.
A masterpiece born of Japanese craftsmanship
1. Selected Materials
Using our proprietary original knitting yarn
The yarn used to make MERI is more than just ordinary yarn. It is our original knitting yarn developed over many years using over 70 years of our experience and expertise in knitting and produced by MERI's unique process and machine.
Just pop it in the washing machine for the care.
The yarn used in MERI is a high-performance material with potential antibacterial and deodorizing effects.
Keep your feet cool in summer and warm in winter. It is machine washable to always deliver a comfortable fit.
※Please wash it in a mesh laundry bag.
2. Meticulous Craftsmanship
All handcrafted by artisans
MERI is an item requiring the excellent skills of artisans with over 10 years of experience.
Every step of the process, including weaving fabric, making the base of soles, selecting fabric for straps, knitting soles, and attaching straps, involves professional artisans.
The number of zori slippers made in a day is limited because numerous artisans work together and put their hearts into each pair.
Knitting skills achieving both softness and a sense of balance
Zori slippers crafted with sophisticated skills provide adequate softness and elasticity while giving great stability and sturdiness at the same time. The more you wear them, the more they sink under your own weight, which makes them shape just for your feet.
“I want to put them on the second I get home. I want to keep wearing them forever.”
They make you think that way with their exquisite, comfortable feeling.
3.Cherish Japanese Culture
A new lifestyle adopting the beauty of Japan
Many of MERI's items incorporate beautiful Japanese cultural design into socks and the traditional shapes of zori.
You can enjoy Japanese culture at home by incorporating items in your daily life that remind you of wabi-sabi inspired Hokusai and Yatsuhashi.
Let Japanese traditions blend into modern lifestyles, and discover the beauty of Japan through experiencing comfortable fit and feel.
